| - The drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will compete in their final pre-Chase race when they hit the track at Richmond International Raceway for the Air Guard 400 on Saturday.Tony Stewart will be looking to make it two wins in a row after he ended a lengthy drought with a victory over the weekend in the Emory Healthcare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton, and Kyle Busch rounded out the Top 5 in Atlanta. Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman, Juan Montoya, and Marcos Ambrose made up the rest of the Top 10. Matt Kenseth was 11th in Atlanta, Jeff Gordon was 13th, Kevin Harvick was 33rd, Greg Biffle was 36th, and Denny Hamlin wound up in 43rd place. Harvick, Gordon, Kyle Busch, Stewart, Edwards, Burton, Johnson, Kurt Busch, Kenseth, Hamlin, Biffle, and Bowyer make up the Top 12 in the current driver standings; the first 10 have clinched Chase spots heading into the final race before the playoffs begin.Newman sits 117 points back of Bowyer for the final spot in the Chase. Hamlin won the September race at Richmond last season, while Kyle Busch won the Crown Royal 400 on the track back in May and in 2009. Johnson, Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. each have three career Cup wins at Richmond.Gordon has two career Cup wins at Richmond, while Kurt Busch, Harvick, Bowyer, Kasey Kahne, Kenseth, Newman, Burton, and Mark Martin have all won there once.After competing at Richmond the series' drivers will begin the Chase for the Sprint Cup in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 19. The 10-race Chase concludes at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 21. |
